  1. The segment with Dr. Jerome Groopman was extremely intersting. Groopman tells Charlie Rose about the time- pressure doctors are now under and how that makes it difficult for them to provide for each patient the proper kind of thought and analysis. Studies show that on average a doctor interrupts a patient eighteen seconds after they have begun to describe their problem. Groopman says that doctors often make errors because they fit a patient into a clear pattern. He gives the instance of a woman on an Indian reservation wrongly diagnosed with flu because there was a flu epidemic at the time. He suggests that doctors may err in being too severe with patients they do not take a liking to. He gives an instance where he himself made a major error misdiagnosed a complaining woman. He mentions that it is common for doctors to let down their demands with well- known patients thus damaging them.

Groopman says that ‘language’ is a key to better care, and true listening to the patient extremely important.
